Dream Ikons 6 Day Painting Course, UK

During this 6 day workshop you will be invited to create a small scale artwork working with the oil and egg tempera technique on a wooden ikon panel. Participants will be guided step by step through the process, from conception to composition, drawing stage through to the final work.

Stylistically we will focus on the approach taken by artists of the northern Renaissance school with some modern day additions to the process. Participants are encouraged to use art as a tool for expressing what is deeply sacred to their heart.

During this workshop you will learn to work with:

* The 'mischetechnik' tempera & oils on a wooden icon panel
* Explore the manifest sacred through art
* Learn how to prepare your wooden ikon panel
* Learn how to make great compositions & armature
* Cultivate your vision and work from inspiration
* Be guided to construct the human / divine figure
* Learn the process from sketch to underpainting stage
* Build up your underpainting with egg tempera
* How to use colour harmony and tonal balance
* Work with glazing & scumbling techniques
* Render such effects as light, fire, crystal, drapera and flesh tones

It is our intention to create a sacred space which allows all to flourish in their creative expression.
No previous art experience is required -­ both beginners and advanced students are welcome! 
 

VENUE

The course will be run in Worthing, Sussex, UK.  The studio space is a friendly residential house five minute walk from Worthing train station with excellent rail links to Brighton, London and Portsmouth.

FOOD

​

A healthy vegetarian lunch will be daily. There are two rooms also available for those wishing for accommodation with breakfast at £20 per night. There are a number of restaurants and supermarkets open in the seaside town Worthing. For those choosing the residential option, breakfast will be offered.

MATERIALS

 

Most materials will be provided. We encourage students to bring their own brushes, sketch book, pencils etc. A detailed list will be sent to those who have booked their place.
